108 - Beetlejuice

The Summer of Winona continues as we go back to Winona’s first commercial success and her first collaboration with Tim Burton, who even back then had way too many ideas and not enough interest in executing them properly. Listen as Alex and Julio try to make sense of BEETLEJUICE and its morbid fascination with death! Is Michael Keaton’s performance to blame for the eventual epidemic of comedians gone wild with the riffing? Why was Winona so bad at charades? And what are the logistics of staging an impromptu supernatural song and dance?

- Alex finished Season 3 of OZARK and is kicking up to the level of Actually Great TV. He’s also looking forward to binging the second season of DEAD LIKE ME.

- Julio was forced to make a list of hit Top 100 Movies so he could talk about spots 91-100 with Paul from THE COUNTDOWN. Also, SNOWPIERCER was not part of that list but it’s still a great movie.

- Check out the LIVESTREAM FOR THE CURE website and make sure you mark your calendar so you can support the cause that weekend! Our segment will be Saturday, May 30th at 4pm EST!

- Hans Rothgiesser, the man behind our logo, can be reached at @mildemonios on Twitter or you can email him at mildemonios@hotmail.com in case you ever need a logo (or comics) produced. And you can listen to him talk about Peruvian politics on his own podcast, NACION COMBI. Aaaaand you can also check out all the stuff he’s written on his own website. Don’t know Spanish? He also did a podcast in English called LIVING IN PERU, about immigrants in - where else - Perú. Oh, and as if that wasn’t enough, he has a new zombie novel out, REQUIEM POR LURÍN. Ask him about it!

Up next, The Summer of Winona continues! We jump forward to one of the biggest mainstream blockbusters in her career, the divisive ALIEN: RESURRECTION! In the meantime, let us know how you liked Beetlejuice! Did you find the movie’s fascination with death disturbing? Were you impressed by Winona or did you think she was overshadowed by her co-starts? Is this the best or the worst Michael Keaton performance?
